A summary/ preview of each song from LIGHT BORN…
1. Birth of Light (Introduction)
This song was the last one made, something that lyrically introduces what the Street Light Mind brand/ philosophy is all about. Our goal is to make mainstream music with substance/ heart. It starts off as a dramatic piece, but quickly turns into an upbeat affair. It has a very, very different sound (a mashup between orchestral and electro elements) that will take a few listens to digest. There isn’t really a true chorus, but rather several catchy parts that repeat, any of which could have been the hook.
“Welcome to the scene of the birth of light/ Out from the cloak of the dark of night/ It’s into the realm of human sight/ Straight from a page of the book of life”
2. Light Up the Sky
VERY upbeat… A song that will sound great in the summer… The most “club friendly” track… Yet, it sticks with the Street Light Mind philosophy and has substance…. Lyrically, the song is directed toward the stars/ celebrities of today, letting them know it’s time for the “everyday” person to shine.
“Light up the sky/ You and I baby (are) about to own the night/ Light it up for the world to see… the universe is ours”
3. CPR
A song about a long distance relationship, where one person has been delayed in returning… A play off the idiom, “Don’t hold your breath”… A radio friendly, R&B/ hip-hop/ pop fusion… featuring the soulful vocals of Gospel/ R&B singer Roney Jones…
“She came and took my breath, then she went away/ Told me she was coming back, but she never said the day/ Here I gotta stay as I sit and wait/ I’m in need of CPR, so resuscitate me”
4. Strut
The “buzz” single from LIGHT BORN… a song that talks about the state of the music industry, while at the same time, acts as an anthem for those who are determined to accomplish great things in life… Musically, a gritty street record with a driving bassline and ominous synths.
“I can not, will not be beat/ Somebody give me their best shot please/ I got it, that crazy cool/ I strut when I walk, one foot, one, two”

To all the supporters of the Street Light Mind,
As a famous beat-smith once said, “It’s been a long time/ I shouldn’t have left you, left you/ Without a dope beat to step to…”
I want to personally thank everyone for all of the love, support, and help with our first few songs. The people who have experienced “Strut,” “When the Music Hits,” and “Bunnies…” have been very loyal in getting the word out as much as possible. Whether it was purchasing the single off iTunes, watching the video on Youtube, or just “like”-ing us on Facebook, it has all meant a great deal to me and my right hand man, my brother Phil.
While in New York City for New Year’s, we came up with the decision that we needed to get a higher quantity of music in the hands of people in 2011. While there has been mostly positive reaction to what we’ve put released, many people/ blogs simply wanted to hear more material before they could be completely on board, which is understandable.
We develeoped a VERY aggressive strategy for early 2011. Even if we were a full blown major label/ record company with dozens of employees, the task would have been difficult. Our goal was to release a full, original, free ALBUM (although for promo appeal we are calling it a mixtape), professionally produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered, by mid-March. Specifically, we wanted to finish by SXSW so we could travel to Austin to begin networking/ promotion.
